Fuming oak is a lesser-known yet popular technique to finish wooden floors. In the smoking cabin, the natural tannins present in the wood react in a special way: the grain pattern becomes more visible and the raw plank gets a darker colour. As the amount of tannic acid varies in every piece of wood, each board will have a unique appearance with naturally-occurring variations in colour, texture and grain pattern.
